Children need to be disciplined and for that, the first step is to make sure their surroundings are neat and tidy. It does not matter that they should be provided with all the comforts but the essentials should be around them for a better development.

So, what would be the basic needs of an elementary school kid?

  • · Wall color
  • · Wardrobe
  • · Twin bed
  • · Study desk
  • · Book shelf

Wall Color

Colors encourage learning and creativity. It helps children retain their information longer. Different colors cause different moods. Depending on your kid’s behavior you should design the décor to match either an active or relaxed style.

Relaxing colors such green, blue and violet, which help induce relaxation, should surround children that are overly stimulated. Colors such as red, orange and yellow stimulate and increase brain activity.

Attached is the link of Teaches12345, who gives a detailed guide on color combinations to be used for a kid's room.

Wardrobe

A Child’s wardrobe will keep changing as they outgrow it fast and as new trends come in, their needs change.

Give versatility to your kid’s wardrobe. Get it designed by the Container Store.

You give them the dimensions of your wardrobe and they will design your wardrobe according to the needs of the individual. They give feasibility to the wardrobe by designing in such a way that the racks can be moved around depending on an individual’s needs and wants.

This online store has the option for you to design your wardrobe via phone or you could go to their store and get it done by an associate.

A Twin bed

A kid needs a bed with a basic frame, which is sturdy and does not take up much of the room. Ikea has good choices for bed frames.

They have so many choices at reasonable prices.

If your kid has a habit to move a lot while sleeping, no need to fret. Try to push one side of the bed towards the wall and the other side should have a railing.

A railing can be bought from any store such as Wal-Mart or Target or any online store with a keyword Railing for the bed.

The space under the bed is also a good place to store in toys and extra stuff that the child does not need.

Study Table

A good posture while studying will not only make your kid sincere about his assignments but also give him a good handwriting.

Book Shelf

Extra books can always be stacked in the bookshelf.

Children furniture can be bought from many online stores. I bought mine from Wayfair.

This online company has a wide range of furniture and gives you a 3% back with Wayfair awards. Wayfair has good customer service and has many options of delivery such as: Front door delivery, Inside delivery and packaging removal and Inside delivery with assembly.

If the product you ordered does not suit your guidelines or the measurements of the room. It takes it back, settles your dilemma and then ships furniture accordingly.

Kid’s posters/art work

Children like to display their art. I prefer to tape it in his room rather than framing it.

Why?

It’s not because I am not sentimental towards his creation, but just that this is their age to create new stuff so, by investing in frames (which are usually different sizes depending on the art work that he has created) I land up with a stack of useless frames.

Getting Sentimental on designing your kid's room is not the key but being practical is the way to go. Children just need love and comfort, which can be provided even with the basic needs.

Good luck!
