Life without Cell Phone

Updated on January 27, 2015

“Not returning phone calls is the severest form of torture in the civilized world.”
Marisha Pessl, Special Topics in Calamity Physics

“Somebody dialed the wrong number trying to reach me, but I didn’t pick up because I didn’t recognize the number, or the legitimacy of the situation.”
Jarod Kintz, This is the best book I've ever written, and it still sucks

A telephone cord used to make an excellent leash on people. Now metal chains work better.”
Jarod Kintz, This is the best book I've ever written, and it still sucks

“To me, a good friend is one who doesn't talk, but who listens all the time. Someone who is observant. Someone who wiretaps your phone lines. I consider myself a good friend.”
Jarod Kintz, This Book is Not FOR SALE

A Cell-phone

A Cell-phone is such an interesting gadget and it's getting remarkably smaller in size day by day and amazingly with all the possible Applications on it. It sure has become a very interesting machine. I have seen people carrying it everywhere...you name it such as bed, restroom, while bathing. No activity is a lonesome one anymore. We have it near us and we tend to navigate the APPs even while talking to someone or shopping.

Boy, where are our manners?

Dare to Experiment on yourself?

I would love to do this experiment on myself and wonder how many had already done it? Go without my cell-phone for just 1 day.

YES...just one day. That's what I have been saying that to myself....it's just a day...I can do it!!

But, then in an hour's time, I go looking for it. I check for missed calls. I scan all the possible APPs I have. And there, goes my experiment with just one conclusion that I am a weak headed person who cannot control myself. Gosh! that sure is disappointing.

I wonder how my life would be without a cell phone..DULL.

How would I keep myself entertained after doing all the norms of the day? How would I connect to the world? How would I know that all is well at the other end of my world i.e. my loved ones? I gotta keep up with my score of games and watch out for my friend's who score even out with me on games. I gotta keep it near me just in case of an emergency. I see myself running frantically with out it. You see...this is a world for winners so, how can I lay low for once...nay can't.

One of my hub mentions the importance of pollination vs having a cellphone.

Preservation of Nature, which is important to every soul.

I realize the importance of preserving nature. The bees were born to balance out our ecosystem. We are disturbing it by installing cell phone towers every where. It is not good for the bees. I guess, when we start seeing a drastic decline in the population of the bees we will begin to take action. We humans, are aware but I guess we love Luxury so, can't give up easily unless we get a bad kick in our ecosystem and we start seeing the effects.

Ponder over the below facts!

We should moderate the use of a cell phone. Attachment to anything is bad. In fact, Attachment can lead to sorrow. It can lead to misery. So, I guess we better learn now than being late and then repenting for it.

I have written a more elaborate hub on the effects of being attached vs. staying detached to material things, relationships in my below hub.

Before I advice anyone, I ought to moderate my usage of my cell-phone. This will affect my relationship with people by giving them respect when they are around me rather than calling them later and chatting OVER the phone.
