My Innocence

Updated on January 27, 2015

“Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands.”
Anne Frank

How happy is the blameless vestal’s lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray’r accepted, and each wish resign’d”
Alexander Pope, Eloisa to Abelard

“It's never too late to have a happy childhood.”
Tom Robbins, Still Life with Woodpecker

“It is better to risk saving a guilty person than to condemn an innocent one.”
Voltaire, Zadig

LIFE.....is meant to be lived.

We get this precious life, and we waste it by comparison, ego, hatred, jealousy, lies, fraud. What will we get at the end of it? Have we have ever pondered on this thought. What is LIFE and what have we turned it into? When we take birth on this planet, we are so pure, so fragile, so innocent. As we grow, our innocence is lost. We get all covered with the sand of desires, attachment and all the possible negativity present around us.

Where did all the innocence go?

How did we get all covered with all the above? When we were children, we used to laugh heartily. We used to play with enthusiasm. We used to get happy with small things. We used to smile at passersby and make their day. We used to jump high and not bother if we get hurt. We were fearless. We would dream of touching the sky and coming back. We would dream of running as fast as a leopard. We were unaware of all the ugliness that lay behind those closed doors.

As we start growing, we get curious to open those closed doors to see what's behind them. Just as Adam and Eve were curious to eat the forbidden apple the same way, WE as kids were curious to open the door that had all the ugliness hidden by our parents/adults. They wanted to preserve our innocence but, we were eager to grow up. Little did we realize that once we know what's hidden behind those doors, our life will not be the same. We will have responsibilities on our shoulders. We will have to become competitive since it's the world of the survival of the fittest. Our parents were there to guide us through it but, then for the most part, we were alone trying to communicate with the outer world. That made us withstand the many obstacles and mold ourselves according to our surroundings. Our surroundings have not been friendly so far, and thus, came the snowstorm of all ugliness accompanied with LIFE.

Phew! What a milestone we achieved by opening those doors huh!

But, then we could not stay with those doors shut forever. Those doors would have opened some day or the other. It is up to us, how we tackle the negativity of our society. It is up to us, how we learn to dwell amongst it. It is up to us, how we smile amidst all the tragedies. It is up to us, how we still laugh. It is up to us, how we approach LIFE.

My Innocence lies in my hands

My Innocence lies in my thinking. My Innocence lies in, how I approach LIFE. This is ONE life we have, let's make the full use of it, but taking charge of it and not be in a hurry to hush things. Time, will never come back so, let's enjoy the present and not worry too much about the past and the future. My Innocence lies in TODAY. So, let's enjoy the TODAY!!
