Security Alarm System, is it worth it?

What is a Security Alarm System?
Security Alarm is a good home security device since, it provides theft deterrence and a "little" bit of peace of mind. There are wired or wireless alarm systems and both seem to work equally fine esp. if the house is being monitored by the Alarm company 24/7.
Two types of monitoring the Security Alarm System
Monitored systems are where a private company is given a contract to watch over your wired/wireless home. IF something goes wrong or there is a break-in, this monitored company calls you and the police.
Unmonitored systems are where a company installs on-site sirens and flashing lights that alert your neighbors of a break-in. You rely on your neighbors to call 911.
An incident
Last Sunday afternoon our friend and his family leave the house around 3pm and around 3.15pm they get a call from their Alarm company saying that there has been a break-in. After calling up the owner, this privately owned alarm company calls up 911 to inform them about the break-in at a particular address.
Frantic couple reached their home 3.45pm and saw everything wide open. The burglars were smart, they got what they wanted thanks to a metal detector. This friend was going through the rummages and trying to determine their loss. They were emotionally distressed since, someone invaded their privacy and got hold of their hard earned stuff.
The cops came at 4pm!
When questioned the cops about their late arrival, their reply was "because of recession, many cuts are made and not many cops are there to attend to burglary calls."
Shocking!
Something to ponder upon..
- WHY are we making cuts to that extent that we are putting the lives of innocent people at risk?
- WHERE is the hard earned tax money of people going when, the security of person is not guaranteed?
- SHOULD we waste our hard earned money on Security Alarm systems anymore since, when they call for security. The security does not have enough funds to answer such calls?
I can't comment on the above 2 questions but I feel that since Security Alarm systems are privately owned they can easily afford to have a team of their security guards well trained for such events. That will help their privately owned company to gain more business.
A shout-out to ALL privately owned Security Alarm Companies. With this recession you can help boost the sales of your company by taking the above steps. I am sure, people would be ready to give you extra bucks to have your around for that peace of mind WHEN/IF they have a break-in.

a very well easy to read useful hub :) Frank
Hi Ruchira, some good questions here, an interesting and useful hub, thank you for sharing and voted up, best wishes Lesley
You bring up some good questions. My impressions were a security system would be great. in fact i have been thinking about having one installed, now, i am not so sure. My Sister Eva had one installed recently after a breakin. By the time the police arrived, the man was out of sight. I would think the yard sign would deter, maybe not. If we would stop spending millions on policing other countries, that would give us much needed capital to increase our homeland security.. My opinion..Cheers
We've an alarm system set up in the house. You can never be too safe. My alarm announces every time a door or window is opened. Thanks for the useful hub.
Great Hub Ruchira! My sister just got one at her house and we have found out if she has more than 2 calls she will be charged 50 bucks by the police department in her area!
It is a good idea to check with your local police department to see if there will be a fee if they must respond to an alarm. I do understand the 50 could be worth it but for alarms that go off accidentally ??? It could become quite costly. Her alarm went off by mistake and the police responded but warned her.
Thanks - this is a great wake up call!
