Importance of Spices
Spices not only add flavor to our food but are also good for our health.
I will take you on a tour to make 3 exciting and EASY chutneys which you can use as a side-dish and can be an accompaniment for the main food as well.
What is a Chutney?
Chutney is a condiment used in Asian cuisine that usually contains a mixture of spices and vegetable and/or fruit. They are either wet or dry and have a coarse to fine texture.
These chutneys go well with pasta, rice, bread, or any meat of your choice.
Ingredients for 3 chutneys
- bunch of coriander/cilantro
- 9 oz peanuts
- 2-3 teaspoon red chilly flakes
- 3-5 green chillies
- according to taste salt
- 1 lemon
- 2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2 teaspoon oil
- 8 oz shredded coconut
- 4 tomatoes
- 2-3 dates
- 1 onion
Coriander Chutney
1. A bunch of coriander
2. 3 oz peanuts
3.Half an onion
4. 1 Tomato
5. 2-3 dates
6. 3 green chillies OR 2 teaspoon red chilli flakes
7. half lemon squeezed
Crush ALL the ingredients from 1-6 in a grinder. Squeeze the lemon and add salt according to taste.
Coconut chutney
- 8 oz shredded coconut
- 2 teaspoon of red chilli flakes OR 2 green chillies
- 3 oz of peanuts
Crush ALL the above in a grinder. Add salt according to taste.
In a frying pan Add 1 teaspoon of oil. Add 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds and let the seeds crackle in the oil.
Take the pan off the stove and pour it on the coconut chutney.
Tomato Chutney
- 4 tomatoes
- 3 oz peanuts
- 3 green chillies OR 2 teaspoon red chilli flakes
- Half an onion
Crush ALL the above in a grinder and add salt to taste.
In a frying pan Add 1 teaspoon of oil. Add 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds and let the seeds crackle in the oil.
Take the pan off the stove and pour it on the tomato chutney.
