Why is our blood RED?

Updated on April 19, 2012

RED....

Red is such a striking color. It makes one alert when we see this color. Red also displays courage. It is an emotionally intense color. Red stimulates a fast heartbeat and breathing. It is a color of love. Red color is usually used as an accent for decoration since it attracts attention.

BLOOD.......

Blood is a fluid that is pumped through the body by the heart and contains plasma, blood cells and platelets.

All living mammals have red blood. Why?

According to science, it's because of the presence of hemoprotein which is composed of globin and heme that gives blood cells their characteristic color i.e Red. Their function is primarily to transport oxygen from the lungs to the body tissues. So, does that mean the color Red has it's significance? If the blood color is Red only then can it transport oxygen from the lungs to the body tissues? Presence of a metal, Iron makes our blood red. Why do we need Iron as a metal? Some living things have different metals in their transport system. For example, crabs use copper in their transport system which gives them blue blood and sea shrimps have green blood as they use the metal vanadium. Different metals give different colors.

What exactly is the significance of the color RED?

In Physiological terms, the color Red means being Bold, being Brave, taking up challenges in this life. Let me start with an example, let's say I am working and I cut myself accidentally. Seeing RED blood oozing out makes me feel anxious and scared. It's because of the impact of the color Red. Had my blood been of any other color, I would not have felt as anxious as seeing the color Red. The color Red has a great impact not only as blood but also if a Red dress/shirt is worn. If worn for a presentation or for an exam or a test. It gives a feeling of confidence. Red is also a symbol of life, energy and fire.

Thus, the designing of a human body has been done very intelligently. We have all the necessary tools and gadgets to perform our best. This human machine was manufactured in such a way that we could discover our creator and be aware of his creation.
